On Sunday afternoon, around 15:00, Diana Mulingwe, aged 34, was walking within the crowded Jacaranda Grounds when a Toyota Prado collided with her and then continued past the scene. The vehicle’s registration details were not recorded, and the driver fled, leading police to classify the incident as a hit‑and‑run road‑traffic accident.
Mulingwe suffered severe injuries, including multiple fractures to her lower limbs, and was rushed to Patanisho Hospital for emergency care. Despite medical intervention, she succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment. Her remains were subsequently transferred to the mortuary at Mama Lucy Hospital for further procedures.
Police officers arrived promptly, secured the area and began a forensic investigation to establish the circumstances of the crash and identify the vehicle and its operator. The rally, which attracted thousands of attendees, was temporarily disrupted as authorities gathered evidence and interviewed witnesses.
The incident has heightened concerns over road safety at large public gatherings in Kenya, with officials urging motorists to adhere to traffic regulations and cooperate fully with law‑enforcement investigations in the wake of such tragedies.
