A 23-year-old student at Egerton University was found dead a day after being reported missing which has caused an uproar from students within the university.
According to Njoro Sub-county Police Commander Jonathan Kisaka, the student’s body was retrieved from a garden inside the university under unclear circumstances.
He added that detectives had carried out an intensive search following the missing reports.
“The student, identified as Edward Jage, was last seen on Saturday, July 24,” Kisaka stated.
Students at the university took to social media to vent the frustrations of the ordeal and urged the detectives to speed up the investigations.
The police currently have pointed out that the deceased had been battling depression. They confirmed that they would conduct investigations in order to uncover the details and determine the cause of Jage’s death.
Efforts to get more details from the Egerton University administration were futile as they declined to comment on the matter.
This mirrors a similar incident whereby another student had recently been found dead at his friend’s house after a long drinking spree at Egerton’s Njoro campus.
The police uncovered that the student had been taking hard drinks just before his demise.
His colleagues pointed out that the deceased was overwhelmed after they left a friend’s party.
“He was together with his friends and had been drinking together, but he happened to have taken a lot of alcohol and he was overwhelmed.
“He was carried home by a boda boda rider and taken to his room. However, his condition was bad and he spent the night in a colleague’s room,” said one of his colleagues.
