IEBC jobs 2026: How to check and apply for election jobs ahead of 2027

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission recruitment portal is becoming an important page for Kenyan job seekers as the electoral agency expands preparations for the August 2027 General Election.

IEBC uses its online recruitment system to advertise permanent positions as well as temporary jobs associated with voter registration, by-elections and election operations.

With less than a year remaining before the General Election, the commission is expected to require a substantial temporary workforce to support activities ranging from voter education and polling-station management to ICT support and counting votes.

Jobs IEBC recruits for

IEBC's temporary electoral workforce has included a range of positions during voter registration exercises and elections.

Among the roles applicants should watch for on the recruitment portal are:

Support Electoral Trainers (SETs) — They help train election officials on polling, counting and tallying procedures and support Returning Officers during electoral training.

Presiding Officers — They are responsible for managing polling stations, supervising voting, overseeing counting and completing the required election documentation.

Deputy Presiding Officers — They assist Presiding Officers with management of polling stations and implementation of election procedures.

Polling and Counting Clerks — These officers perform much of the frontline work at polling stations, including assisting voters and supporting polling and counting procedures.

ICT Clerks — They provide technical support for election technology and equipment, including troubleshooting ICT problems during electoral exercises.

Voter Registration Clerks — They support voter registration exercises and handle registration-related data and equipment.

Voter Registration Assistants — They supervise or support registration operations during enhanced voter registration exercises.

Voter Educators — IEBC has previously recruited voter educators at county, constituency and ward levels to explain voting and electoral procedures to the public.

Logistics Officers — They support movement, distribution and accountability for election materials and other logistical requirements.

Returning and Deputy Returning Officers — These are among the officials responsible for coordinating and managing electoral processes within designated electoral areas.

Not all these positions are currently open. They are roles IEBC has recruited for during previous exercises and are worth monitoring as preparations for 2027 expand.

IEBC recruited more than 12,000 temporary workers in 2026

The scale of recruitment required for election preparation is already becoming apparent.

Earlier in 2026, IEBC advertised 12,520 temporary positions to support a 30-day Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration exercise.

That recruitment included 10,780 Voter Registration Clerks, 1,450 Voter Registration Assistants and 290 ICT Clerks.

Those particular applications closed in March and should therefore not be confused with new vacancies appearing on the portal.

IEBC has also recruited temporary officials for individual by-elections during 2026.

The commission is now preparing for another by-election in Migwani Ward, Mwingi West Constituency, scheduled for November 17, 2026. What qualifications does IEBC normally require?

Requirements vary significantly depending on the position.

Applicants should therefore read the requirements attached to the specific vacancy rather than assuming that qualifications from an older IEBC recruitment exercise still apply.

A request to send money to secure an IEBC job should be treated as a warning sign.

The commission has also warned that canvassing, falsifying information or misrepresenting qualifications can lead to disqualification.

Why more IEBC jobs are likely to attract attention before 2027

The General Election requires a much larger workforce than an individual by-election or voter-registration exercise.

Kenya has tens of thousands of polling stations, all of which require election officials.

There are also constituency and county tallying operations, voter education, logistics, ICT support and other functions.

That makes temporary election employment particularly attractive to young Kenyans and graduates looking for short-term work.

But job seekers should distinguish between positions that IEBC historically recruits and vacancies actually accepting applications.
