More than 1.2 million vulnerable Kenyans have begun receiving their June 2026 Inua Jamii cash transfers after the government released Sh2.426 billion under its flagship social protection programme.

The latest disbursement targets 1,213,156 beneficiaries, including older persons aged 70 and above and people living with severe disabilities. Each beneficiary will receive Sh2,000 through the State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs.

The payments come at a time when many households continue to grapple with the rising cost of living, making the monthly stipend an important source of support for food, healthcare and other basic needs.

Labour and Social Protection Principal Secretary Joseph Motari said the programme remains central to the government's efforts to protect the country's most vulnerable citizens.

"The Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Programme remains a cornerstone of the government's social protection strategy. It aims to alleviate poverty and promote the well-being of society's most vulnerable members, including older persons aged 70 and above, and persons with severe disability," Motari said.

The Ministry said the cash transfers are intended to improve the quality of life of beneficiaries while promoting dignity and social inclusion. Officials added that the programme continues to provide a financial safety net for elderly citizens and families caring for people living with severe disabilities.

The latest payments form part of the government's broader social protection agenda, which seeks to cushion vulnerable households against economic hardship through regular cash assistance.

Beneficiaries have been advised to collect their funds through the approved payment channels and continue complying with programme requirements.

Although the monthly payment may appear modest, it remains a lifeline for thousands of households, particularly in rural areas where many elderly people rely on the funds to meet essential day-to-day expenses.
