Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced plans to host a grand celebration in Rongai, Nakuru County, where he intends to slaughter 50 cows. The festive occasion comes in the wake of the victory of Paul Chebor, a Member of Parliament-elect, in the region's parliamentary by-election.
Gachagua expressed his elation during a ceremony where he was overseeing the issuance of title deeds in the area. He reminisced about the promise he had made to Rongai voters back in August 2022.
"I am happy that you listened to me. I told them if Chebor wins we will have a party," Gachagua exclaimed, addressing the enthusiastic crowd.
"It is up to you, Chebor, to plan. I have the cows ready. We agreed I would slaughter 50 cows."
The Deputy President went on to disclose that President William Ruto had emphasized the significance of winning the Rongai parliamentary by-election. Following Ruto's instructions, Gachagua and other members of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) campaigned vigorously in the region.
"We had a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the people that they would be in government since we had a president already. They spoke with one voice that they will be in the government and voted unanimously for Chebor," he recounted.
As he thanked the Rongai residents for fulfilling their end of the bargain, Gachagua issued a word of advice to the newly elected MP. He urged Chebor to treat the constituents fairly, especially by continuing the practice of distributing school bursaries equitably.
Gachagua reminded Chebor that during the campaign period, residents had initially intended to vote for the then-incumbent, Raymond Moi, due to his track record of fair bursary allocations.
The Deputy President emphasized that maintaining such practices would be crucial for Chebor's continued success in representing the constituents effectively within the August House.
Chebor secured victory in the Rongai parliamentary by-election with 27,021 votes, running on the UDA ticket. In contrast, Raymond Moi, who contested under the Kenya African National Union (KANU), came in second with 14,715 votes.
Before clinching the Rongai seat, Chebor had served for two terms as a county representative for the Solai Ward.
