Gachagua warns Sakaja against kicking out Matatus from Nairobi CBD

Gachagua was speaking in Nyeri on Monday, December 19, during the launch of free Wi-Fi at the Nyeri Open Market.

In the video, Gachagua disclosed that he will sit down with the governor over his policy on ejecting matatus from the CBD and allegedly frustrating business people from Mt Kenya.

“I have told the governor that I will sit down with him because we are the ones who elected him. I am the one who asked Central Kenya in Nairobi to vote for him,

“Anything that he decides on that may affect your business in Nairobi. We must first talk and agree. There is no hurry. The issue of ejecting matatus from Nairobi will not happen,

Sakaja is a good governor. We will agree on how business people will co-exist in Nairobi without disruptions. We will sit down and assess how we helped him and agree,” he added.

Gachagua further asked Sakaja to emulate his counterpart from Nakuru county, Susan Kihika, whom he said was championing the interest of her community.

"I want to appreciate governor Kihika, a good daughter of ours. She found the matatu transport investors chased out of the town to the bush by former governor Lee Kinyanjui,

"I persuaded Nakuru people that their destiny was in their own hands...that they had the full powers to send Lee Kinyanjui home and bring back their matatus to town," he added.

His sentiments stemmed from Sakaja's notice on November 28 where the county government published new guidelines after meeting Saccos and other transport stakeholders.

"All PSV SACCOs and PSV companies offering services between Nyanza, Western, North Rift, South Rift, and Central Rift who are currently operating from Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD) will be relocated to the Green Park Terminus in the first phase," the notice read in part.

During his tenure as Nairobi senator, he filed a case in court to suspend the matatu CBD ban imposed by former governor, Mike Sonko, citing a lack of public participation and alternatives.

The ban on Public Service Vehicles was to prevent them from accessing the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).
