Safaricom has announced it will carry out a scheduled upgrade of its Fuliza overdraft service on Monday, 17 November, warning customers of brief interruptions during the early-morning maintenance window.

The company said the system will undergo work between 1:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m., a period chosen to minimise disruption. While Fuliza may be unavailable at intervals, all other M-PESA services — including money transfers, bill payments, and banking — will run normally throughout.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Safaricom said the upgrade is part of its ongoing work to keep its financial services “safe, secure and worry-free.”

“We will be conducting a scheduled system upgrade on the Fuliza platform from 0100 hrs to 0200 hrs,” the company noted, adding that customers may experience intermittent access during that hour.

Fuliza, introduced in 2019, is one of Kenya’s most widely used short-term digital credit services. Any period of inaccessibility, even brief, can affect millions of transactions, prompting Safaricom to reassure users that the downtime will be short and controlled.

The company said the exercise is aimed at improving performance and expanding features as demand for mobile-based credit continues to grow. Safaricom stressed that customer experience and reliability remain central to its digital financial strategy.

Customers were encouraged to plan ahead and complete any Fuliza-related transactions before or after the one-hour window to avoid inconvenience.

Safaricom issued an apology in advance to users who may be affected, thanking them for their continued trust in M-PESA’s financial ecosystem.
