Sandra Dacha Hits Back at Critics Over Weight Loss: ‘I Lost Kilos, Not My Age’

Kenyan actress Sandra Dacha has challenged social media users questioning her appearance after her significant weight loss, saying she cannot be expected to shed kilos while keeping the same face and body she had before.

The actress addressed the comments in a Facebook post on Friday, November 6, after some people suggested she looked younger when she was heavier but appeared older following her transformation.

“Apparently, I looked younger when I was bigger and now I look old after losing weight,” she wrote.

Dacha then questioned the expectation that her face and body should remain unchanged despite the reduction in her weight.

“So basically, I was supposed to lose weight but retain the face and body of my former self? Aki, you people are difficult!!!” she added.

She ended with a line that captured her frustration in her trademark humorous style: “Mimi nilipunguza KILO, si umri” – meaning, “I lost kilos, not my age.”

Her response has brought renewed attention to the scrutiny that can follow people who make visible changes to their bodies. For Dacha, the criticism appears to have shifted from comments about her former size to opinions about how she looks after losing weight.

A transformation she has shared publicly

Dacha has been open about her weight-loss journey, regularly sharing updates and photographs with her followers.

In November 2025, she revealed that her weight had dropped from 152kg to 100kg, a reduction of 52kg over a year. She celebrated the milestone on social media, although she has not publicly confirmed a more recent figure.

Earlier this week, on November 4, she shared a throwback video of herself dancing with her partner, Akuku Danger, before her weight-loss journey.

“I will miss this body of mine,” she captioned the clip, offering a glimpse of how she reflects on her former appearance even as she continues to embrace change.

Her latest remarks followed that nostalgic post, but she did not say that she regretted losing weight. Instead, she questioned why people expected her appearance to remain the same after her body changed.

Recent health update draws attention

The comments also come at a time when followers have been following developments in Dacha’s health.

On November 1, the actress shared footage showing her preparing for surgery at a medical facility. She did not disclose the nature of the procedure or explain why it was necessary.

She later posted videos on social media, including footage of herself eating, which offered followers some reassurance. However, she has not provided a detailed public account of the procedure or her recovery.

There is no confirmed information linking the surgery to her weight-loss journey, and the two should not be treated as connected.

The pressure of public opinion

Dacha’s response also touches on a familiar problem for women in the public eye: their appearance can become a subject of public debate regardless of what they choose to do.

A person who gains weight may face pressure to lose it. After losing weight, they may then be criticised for looking different.

Dacha chose humour to challenge that contradiction rather than apologise for her changing appearance.

Her message was simple: losing weight does not mean losing years, and a personal transformation does not have to satisfy everyone watching from the sidelines.
