President William Ruto and First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto celebrate their daughter Charlene’s wedding to Isaya Yunge at Malaika Beach Hotel in Mwanza, Tanzania.
President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto joined family members and invited guests in Mwanza, Tanzania, on Friday as their daughter Charlene married Tanzanian entrepreneur Isaya Yunge.
The President and First Lady were among the central figures at the ceremony held at Malaika Beach Resort, where they shared the spotlight with the newlyweds during a celebration that brought together guests from Kenya and Tanzania.
One of the day's most touching moments came when the presidential couple accompanied Charlene down the aisle. They joined her during the walk towards the altar, sharing a warm family moment as guests watched and captured the occasion.
The couple also drew attention with their coordinated outfits. President Ruto wore a maroon formal jacket, while Rachel appeared in a matching-toned dress with floral detailing and a wide-brimmed hat.
Charlene wore an elaborate white wedding gown, completing her bridal look with a long veil and bouquet. The ceremony featured a flower-lined aisle and a large white floral arch, with guests seated beneath a decorated outdoor structure.
A celebration linking two families.
The Mwanza wedding marked another milestone in celebrations that began in Kenya.
Charlene and Yunge held their traditional Kalenjin engagement ceremony, known as Koito, on August 8 at Intonna Heritage Farm in Kilgoris, Narok County. The event brought together relatives and elders from both families ahead of the white wedding.
In the days leading up to the ceremony, Charlene held a bridal shower in Nairobi on November 3. The gathering was followed by a family blessing hosted by her mother, with female relatives and close friends offering prayers and guidance ahead of her marriage.
The choice of Mwanza for the white wedding brought the celebrations to Yunge’s home country, giving the occasion a distinctly cross-border character.
Several Kenyan leaders and public figures also travelled to Tanzania for the event, including senior government officials and parliamentary leaders.
For the Ruto family, the day was both a major public occasion and a personal milestone. Their presence at Charlene’s side offered a glimpse of the family celebration behind the formal ceremony.
