President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto made a coordinated appearance at their daughter Charlene’s white wedding in Tanzania, choosing matching maroon tones for a ceremony that brought together family, friends and invited guests from Kenya and Tanzania.
The couple’s outfits stood out, but their most personal moment came when they joined Charlene as she walked towards the altar to marry Tanzanian entrepreneur Isaya Yunge.
President Ruto wore a maroon formal coat over a white shirt, paired with black trousers and a bow tie. He completed the look with a dark hat and a badge pinned to his coat.
Rachel chose a long maroon dress decorated with white floral details. A matching hat completed her outfit, giving the First Lady a coordinated look alongside her husband.
Their choice of colour created a shared visual theme without making the outfits identical. Rachel’s floral design brought a softer detail, while the President’s coat gave his look a more traditional formal finish.
A family moment beyond the fashion
The couple’s appearance was part of a larger family occasion in Mwanza, where Charlene married Yunge on Friday, November 6.
Footage from the ceremony showed the President and First Lady meeting their daughter before accompanying her towards the altar. They shared a warm embrace with Charlene before walking alongside her, a moment that drew attention from guests and viewers following the event.
Charlene wore a white lace gown with a long veil, while Yunge opted for an ivory jacket and black trousers. The outdoor ceremony featured a flower-lined aisle and a white floral arch.
The wedding also attracted several Kenyan public figures, including senior government officials and political leaders who travelled to Tanzania for the celebrations.
Celebrations spanning two countries
The Mwanza ceremony followed the couple’s traditional Kalenjin engagement celebration, known as Koito, held on August 8 at the Ruto family’s Intonna Heritage Farm in Kilgoris, Narok County.
That event brought together elders and relatives from both families, marking an important stage in the union before the white wedding in Tanzania.
Charlene’s pre-wedding celebrations continued in Nairobi, where she held a bridal shower on November 3. The gathering brought together close friends and family, including her sister Stephanie.
From the traditional ceremony in Kenya to the white wedding in Tanzania, the celebrations have brought the two families together across borders.
For the President and First Lady, however, the day was also a family milestone. Their coordinated outfits may have caught the cameras, but walking their daughter towards the altar offered the more personal highlight of the occasion.
