Renowned rapper Henry Ohanga, popularly known as Octopizzo, has achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first Kenyan artist to amass 1 million views on YouTube within a mere 36 hours.
Octopizzo released his latest track titled 'Sijawai,' and the music video quickly garnered an impressive 1 million views shortly after its upload on May 24, 2023.
The video has swiftly climbed the ranks on YouTube and is currently trending at number 27.
Previously, the record for reaching 1 million views in the shortest time was held by Otile Brown and Harmonize for their collaboration 'Woman,' which achieved the feat in 48 hours.
Other notable songs to achieve 1 million views in a short span include Sauti Sol's 'Suzanna' and Diana B's 'Hatutaachana,' both reaching the milestone within three days.
However, it is worth mentioning that Tanzania's Diamond Platnumz and Rayvanny hold the overall record for achieving 1 million views in the shortest time.
In September 2019, Rayvanny set a groundbreaking record in the African music industry when a 21-second teaser for his video 'PEPETA' featuring Bollywood actress and singer Nora Fatehi garnered 1 million views within just 6 hours.
On November 30, 2020, Koffi Olomide, the President of WCB and a renowned Rhumba maestro, made history with his music video for '#Waah,' which amassed over 1 million views in 8 hours and 2 million views in 13 hours on YouTube. Currently, 'Waah' has accumulated over 78 million views and counting.
These achievements highlight the significant impact African artists have had in the global music industry, with Octopizzo now adding his name to the list of record-breaking artists. The 'Sijawai' video, directed by an accomplished filmmaker, promises to continue its upward trajectory in terms of views and popularity.
