Actress Jackie Matubia unveils insights into her upcoming web series telenovela, "Toxic," revealing that it draws inspiration from Kenyan women's affinity for toxic relationships.
Penned by the late actor Charles Ouda, the series is slated for premiere on Matubia's YouTube channel on the 17th of the month, marking a departure from mainstream television to the digital realm.
Matubia, serving as the executive producer, will also take on a leading role alongside actor Mike Saruni, portraying characters emblematic of the allure and allure of toxic relationships.
"Mike Saruni embodies the archetype of the charming, addictive man—traits often associated with toxic partners, which resonate deeply with Kenyan women," Matubia explains, shedding light on the thematic underpinning of the series.
Despite facing initial uncertainty following Ouda's untimely demise in February, Matubia resolved to forge ahead with the project, honoring their shared vision and commitment to storytelling.
"This project was our brainchild, and while his passing left a void, I felt compelled to carry on in his memory. I knew he would want me to see it through, and that's what kept me going," Matubia reflects on her decision to persevere.
The partnership between Ouda and Matubia, cultivated over the course of their friendship, underscores the poignant legacy and creative synergy that fueled their collaboration.
Matubia's "Toxic" stands as a testament to the enduring bond between storytellers and their dedication to exploring complex themes resonant within Kenyan society.
