26, May 2023 / 1 min read / By Anthony Makokha

In a distressing incident on Friday, May 26, approximately 20 students collapsed after anti-riot police officers deployed tear gas in their school located in the Kawangare Estate of Nairobi.

According to reports, the students were attending their morning lessons when the police became involved in clashes with traders from Kawangware. In an attempt to disperse the traders, the police resorted to firing tear gas canisters, inadvertently causing some of them to land within the vicinity of the nearby school.

The unexpected arrival of tear gas canisters created a wave of panic among the students, leading them to scatter in search of safety. Unfortunately, a number of students were affected by the thick smoke emitted by the tear gas canisters.

Following the incident, the affected students were swiftly transported to various hospitals in the Kawangware Estate, where they received necessary medical attention for breathing difficulties caused by the tear gas exposure.
