During a tree-planting event in Makueni County, Kenya, President Ruto, who was presiding over the activity, almost lost his balance while planting a tree. The comical incident occurred when he slipped into the hole where the tree was being planted. His quick recovery prevented a fall, but his vigilant bodyguards rushed to his aid, repeatedly apologizing for the near mishap.
In the video, Ruto, apparently amused by the overzealous assistance, firmly told his bodyguards to "leave me alone," considering their response unnecessary. The unexpected command prompted laughter as the concerned helpers stepped back.
The tree-planting event took place on a public holiday dedicated to the initiative of planting 100 million trees nationwide. President Ruto, aiming to address climate change, pledged to plant 15 billion trees by 2032 to increase Kenya's forest cover, especially in the face of the severe drought affecting the East African country.
Despite the president's commitment to environmental conservation, his announcement in July about the resumption of logging after a five-year ban drew criticism from environmental groups. Nonetheless, the tree-planting holiday saw widespread participation, with citizens, families, students, and civil personnel joining efforts to contribute to the reforestation initiative.
