Linda Mwananchi brigade formally notifies police of August 16 Homa Bay rally amid security concerns

The political faction led by Edwin Sifuna, James Orengo and Babu Owino says it has secured police assurances for the planned rally and is urging supporters to maintain peace.

The Linda Mwananchi political faction has formally notified police of plans to hold a public rally in Homa Bay County on August 16, setting the stage for another stop in its ongoing countrywide political mobilisation campaign.

The notification was delivered to Homa Bay County Police Commander Lawrence Koilem by the faction's county coordinator, Samwel Nyauke, who presented the document at the commander's office.

Police acknowledged and certified receipt of the notice, with the security command assuring organisers that adequate security would be provided during the event.

The planned rally is being organised by a faction associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.

The organisers have placed security at the centre of preparations, appealing to supporters to avoid violence and maintain peace throughout the gathering.

Speaking after submitting the notification, Linda Mwananchi brigade member Clifford Obiero said police had assured the organisers that security would be heightened during the rally.

He also urged attendees to remain peaceful regardless of their political affiliations.

"We have been assured of heightened security," Obiero said, while calling on supporters to cooperate with security agencies and avoid actions that could disrupt the event.

Police commander Koilem similarly assured the organisers of maximum security but warned participants against engaging in violence.

The formal police notification is significant because it moves the August 16 event from political planning to official coordination with security authorities.
