Police Raid Estates in Embakasi, Arrest 16 Muggers

Cops from Villa Police Station in Embakasi, on Friday, November 25, arrested 16 suspected muggers from their hideout within the Transami area.

In a statement shared by the National Police Service, the officers searched the hideout and found one toy pistol, 37 knives, three pangas and two hammers.

Other items recovered include 158 rolls of bhang, 2 litres of chang'aa and 10 Kenya Power meter boxes, suspected to have been stolen.

The arrests were the latest in a series of anti-crime raids targeting criminal elements in the city following public outcry on increased crime rates in the country’s capital.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki earlier reshuffled the Police Command that saw the deployment of Baringo Commander Adamson Bungei as the new Nairobi Region Police Commander to lead renewed efforts to tame crime.

On Monday, November 21, a multi-agency team led by the National Police Service (NPS) in Nairobi arrested six suspected youths aged between 20-26 years while on patrol.

According to police reports, the six miscreants were flushed out from their hideout in Mathare Area 1 and found in possession of four knives, one stone and eight rolls of bhang.

Mathare estate and the surrounding areas of the Drive-in flyover up to KCA along Thika Road had been listed among crime hotspots in the city.

The police service appreciated the unwavering support and partnership between the National Government Administration Officers and members of the public who immensely contributed to the success of this operation.

In a call to end the upsurge in crime, Nairobi governor, Johnson Sakaja, urged the youth to offer him ample time as he sought a model of funding their business ventures in a bid to curb the rise of criminal activities.
