Police Officer Arrested After Shooting Bartender in Love Triangle

15, Nov 2022 / 2 min read / By Livenow Africa

A police officer is in custody after he shot his boss' lover, a bartender, who the assistant county commissioner suspected was cheating on him.

In a report by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday, November 14, the officer had accompanied his boss to the bar in Kapenguria, after being tipped off that his lover was warming up to another man.

They found the bar locked from the inside, but after the commissioner confirmed that one of the voices inside was that of his companion, they hatched a plan to gain entry and confront her.

"The duo knocked on the door appealing to Nelimo to open and sell them some drinks. At first, she was hesitant but when one of them said that they wanted to take away drinks, she obliged," the report read in part.

A heated verbal exchange ensued, with the administrator demanding to know the identity of the man who his lover was seeing on the side.

Meanwhile, the officer had cocked his gun and the man accused of infidelity stayed put. Any explanation by the bar stewardess on why they were conversing in low tones and in the dark made no sense to the county commissioner.

"The commotion escalated and without warning, the police officer opened fire andshot the bar attendant on her abdomen, occasioning her life-threatening injuries," the DCI wrote.

Consequently, the administrator and the officer fled the scene, leaving the lady writhing in pain.

Locals who arrived at the scene rushed the victim to the Kapenguria County hospital, where she was admitted in critical condition.

A report was subsequently filed at the nearest police station and a manhunt was launched to arrest the two suspects from their hideout.

They were nabbed and the AK47 from which the bullet was fired was recovered wiith 29 rounds of ammunition and one spent cartridge.

DCI officers will question the suspects and witnesses before possible arraignment in court.
