US President Donald Trump concluded his two‑day trip to Ireland by declaring that the United States would lift the standard 15% tariff applied to whiskey produced in the Republic of Ireland, a move he announced just before presenting the Irish Open trophy to champion Shane Lowry at the Trump International Golf Links in County Clare. Under existing rules, Irish Republic spirits are subject to the EU‑wide 15% duty when entering the US, whereas whiskey distilled in Northern Ireland or elsewhere in the United Kingdom enjoys a tariff‑free status. Trump said the decision came after discussions with Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin and golfer Lowry, quoting a request to "do a favour" by removing what he called an unfair charge.
