Ruto: Chebukati Came to Your House at Your Invitation

President William Ruto on Monday, January 30, disregarded claims by Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s that three former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners paid him a visit before the announcement of the August 9, presidential election results.

Speaking at the Africa Prosecutors Association conference in Mombasa, Ruto wondered why the former Premier did not submit the evidence during the Supreme Court hearing and instead chose to relay the information at a public rally.

He further wondered why Raila - as a presidential candidate at the time - invited the former commissioners to his residence.

"You had an opportunity to bring up this claim of alleged bribery before the seven judges of the Supreme Court and you did not. You chose to announce it at a political rally,” Ruto stated.

Moreover, Ruto stated that Raila’s remarks were laced with the insinuation that the officials went there for something he had not disclosed.

“If it is true, what were these officials doing at your house in the first place,” Ruto added.

Ruto further noted that the Azimio leader should have presented such evidence earlier instead of raising the concerns five months after the verdict had already been made.

Ruto's remarks came a day after claims by the Azimio leader that three former IEBC commissioners, paid him a visit before the announcement of the August 9, presidential results.

While addressing a rally at Jacaranda on Sunday, January 29, Raila stated that he had evidence to prove that IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, and Commissioners Abdi Guliye and Boya Molu sought his audience and made requests to him.

Raila further called on international organisations to send officials to the country to further investigate the results of the presidential elections claiming that he had won.

"We are calling for the UN to send inspectors to Kenya in the next two weeks or else Kenyans will take action themselves," Raila noted.

Raila further demanded the resignation of President Ruto calling on him to hand over power to the Azimio regime noting that they would continue holding public rallies in other counties.

"We want Kenyans to stand strong. We will go to Machakos, Nakuru, Kisumu, Mombasa Kiambu Garissa, Isiolo, and Turkana and then come back here to Nairobi," the Azimio leader announced.
