A section of Azimio La Umoja coalition leaders has dismissed claims of plans to join President William Ruto’s administration as part of the proposed broad-based government.
Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, speaking to the press, revealed that the coalition made this decision following a meeting held by individual parties.
Kalonzo stated that the coalition would not support any decision by its leaders to join President Ruto’s administration. He emphasized that the coalition would continue to champion a better administration for the Kenyan people.
“We reiterate our public position that when it comes to siding with Gen Zs, and the Kenyan people, our decision is as obvious as day and night, we will always stand with the people of Kenya," Kalonzo Musyoka announced. “Should any of our members opt to join the proposed Kenya Kwanza-led broad-based government of national unity, we shall not be a party to that decision.”
Kalonzo also refuted allegations that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga planned to join President Ruto's broad-based government. He clarified that Raila proposed a convention, not a dialogue, to discuss a transitional government arrangement.
"This is something we need to reflect on after what our leader, Raila Odinga, called a national convention and not a dialogue," Kalonzo explained.
This stance comes in response to Raila Odinga's proposal for a national convention where all Kenyans would be included to express their views. Speaking during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, Raila faulted the media for misinterpreting his initial sentiments.
“ODM never said that it was going into bed with Ruto. We never said it. It is a creation of the media,” Raila stated. “What we are calling for is a National Convention where all Kenyans will be brought on board to air their views. It is a fact everyone is annoyed with Kenya Kwanza," he added.
