Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko recently faced a challenging situation when a young man from Busia approached him for financial assistance to pursue a medicine course at the University of Nairobi.
Despite Sonko's status as a philanthropic figure, the man's approach turned sour when he resorted to insults after not receiving a prompt response.
In his initial message to Sonko, the young man, identified as Kevin, politely requested assistance with his school fees. However, as time passed without a reply, Kevin's demeanor shifted, and he began persistently nagging Sonko for a response. Eventually, he sent a voice note expressing frustration at Sonko's silence.
Upon receiving the disrespectful message, Sonko reached out to Kevin to address the issue directly. He questioned Kevin's use of insults in seeking assistance, prompting Kevin to backtrack and claim that his phone had been stolen, leading to the unauthorized message.
Despite the confrontation, Sonko remained composed and promised to investigate the matter further. He later took to X, formerly Twitter, to reflect on the incident, asking his followers to empathize with his situation.
Sonko painted a picture of financial hardship, with no salary, frozen accounts, and struggling businesses, yet still maintaining a desire to help those in need.
Sonko's tweet sparked discussion among his followers, eliciting various responses on how they would handle such a predicament. Amidst the controversy, Sonko's commitment to assisting those in need remained steadfast, despite facing personal challenges.
