Three senior managers of a Limuru-based business have been detained following an incident in which female employees were allegedly coerced into undressing while at work. According to the police, the managers ordered the women to remove their clothes after a sanitary towel was found in the wrong disposal bin.
The quality assurance manager, human resource manager, and HR assistant of the company have all been detained and are currently under investigation. They are scheduled to appear in court on Friday to face multiple charges.
The company's management was unavailable for comment on the matter. Witnesses claim that several female employees were made to undress on Monday after the discovery of the soiled sanitary towel in the incorrect bin.
Tigoni police, who have been investigating the incident, revealed that a high-ranking manager had previously compelled female employees to strip.
The incident came to light after Senator Gloria Orwoba received a distress call about the situation on Monday night. Senator Orwoba took to social media to share the details, stating that the Quality Assurance Manager had found the sanitary towel in the wrong bin and proceeded to gather all the women from the team, demanding that they undress to identify who was on their period and intended to punish them for the misplaced item.
Despite intervention attempts, the situation reportedly escalated. Senator Orwoba called for all institutions to implement the Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) Policy in Kenya for the benefit of all stakeholders.
The police have assured the public that they are handling the issue and conducting a thorough investigation into the allegations.
