Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Monday registered as an individual farmer in his Wamunyoro village.

His registration is in line with President William Ruto's directive on Household Farmer Registration.

In a statement, Gachagua said that Ruto's directive is timely and crucial in ensuring the provision of data in the distribution of subsidized fertilizer and other farm inputs.

"Earlier today at my Farm in Wamunyoro Village, in Mathira West Subcounty, I was registered as an individual farmer by Assistant Chief David Mwangi of Sagana Sub-Location," he said.

Gachagua said that lack of reliable data has over time created loopholes that work against the farmers reaping maximum benefits while giving way to corruption and exploitation of farmers.

He added that the responsibility of registering farmers falls under the National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs).

"They must take this directive seriously in addition to others such as fighting illicit brews, alcoholism, drug and substance abuse, tree planting, resolving local disputes such as boundaries, general maintenance of law and order as well as supporting government policies and programs at National and County level.

He said that Kenya Kwanza Administration is taking the initiative to ensure government officers play their role in service delivery and leave politics to politicians.

He added that there will be no politics whatsoever for the NGAOs.

"I encourage all farmers to register with their local chiefs and assistant chiefs to ensure the exercise is a success to boost agricultural production and create wealth," he said.
