Tanzanian singer Zuchu has offered fans a candid glimpse into the emotional side of her pregnancy, joking that there were moments when she disliked her husband, Diamond Platnumz, so much that she felt like slapping him.
The singer made the revelation during a Snapchat question-and-answer session with fans. Diamond was seen asleep in the background as she responded to questions about how she handled pregnancy.
Asked whether she had given Diamond a difficult time during the pregnancy, Zuchu did not sugar-coat her answer.
“I hated him, yaani nilikuwa simpendi hapo kama nimtie kofi.”
Her response, roughly translated, was that she disliked him at some points and even felt like slapping him.
The comment quickly attracted attention because it came only weeks after the couple's relationship appeared to be heading in a very different direction.
From divorce announcement to new parents
Zuchu and Diamond, whose real name is Naseeb Abdul Juma, made headlines in July when Zuchu publicly announced that they had separated and were going through divorce proceedings.
She said she had decided to put herself first after six years together, while also saying she wanted to focus on her health and music career.
The relationship story took another turn when the couple welcomed their first child together on 2 August.
Diamond and Zuchu announced the arrival of a baby girl, sharing photographs from the hospital with their followers.
A video showing Diamond and Zuchu walking hand in hand through a hospital corridor also drew attention online around the time of the birth.
That sequence — separation, pregnancy, reconciliation and the arrival of their daughter — has kept the couple firmly in the spotlight.
But Zuchu's latest comments offer a different picture. Rather than presenting pregnancy as an entirely joyful experience, she described some of the emotional strain that came with it.
She also addressed pregnancy health concerns
During the same fan interaction, Zuchu was asked whether she had experienced signs of pre-eclampsia.
She said she had not experienced problems during the later stages of her pregnancy.
“I didn't have any problems during my second trimester to my last.”
Her comment should not be read as medical advice for other pregnant women. Pregnancy symptoms vary widely, and pre-eclampsia can require urgent medical assessment.
Why pregnancy can affect emotions
Mood changes are common during pregnancy, although they should not automatically be dismissed as simply “pregnancy hormones”.
Hormonal changes, physical discomfort, fatigue, anxiety and major changes in a person's life can all affect emotions and relationships. Persistent or severe changes in mood can also require professional support.
For Zuchu, however, the revelation appeared to be shared in a light-hearted exchange with her fans rather than as a detailed account of a medical or relationship problem.
That distinction matters, particularly given the intense public attention surrounding her relationship with Diamond.
A public relationship under constant scrutiny
The couple's relationship has repeatedly been followed closely by fans, with periods of separation and reconciliation becoming part of their public story.
Zuchu's July announcement was particularly significant because she explicitly said the pair were separated and going through divorce proceedings. She did not publicly disclose the reason for the split.
Weeks later, the birth of their daughter brought the two stars back into the same spotlight.
Zuchu's latest comments therefore give fans another glimpse into a relationship that has largely played out in public — but they do not, on their own, explain what happened between the couple or what the future of their marriage holds.
For now, the singer appears to be focusing on motherhood while continuing to share selected moments of her journey with her audience.
