Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has given President William Ruto a high confidence rating regarding his ability to perform in the high office.
In a statement on Thursday, the former political strategist in the Jubilee government said Ruto is a man of firsts who has never lost a battle and would not begin by failing at governing the country.
"For 30 years, President William Ruto has never lost a battle he fought. Fact. First man to run for Presidency round one and win. Fact. How then can he lose the battle for running country?," Ngunyi posed.
During campaigns, a section of Ruto's opponents dared him to make himself president after he took credit for Uhuru Kenyatta's rise to State House and the elevation of ODM leader Raila Odinga to Prime Minister.
Ruto proved them wrong by clinching the presidency against all odds in a hotly contested election where he beat Raila despite the Azimio candidate enjoying the full backing of state machinery best known as 'the system'.
With barely two months into office, some of his critics have prophesied doom saying he will fail to lead the country claiming some of his policies are unrealistic.
But Ngunyi said Ruto will no doubt make mistakes as he settles down to work but it's the negativity being displayed by a section of the populace that will hurt the country more.
"He will make mistakes alright. But our national pessimism will hurt the country more," he said.
Ruto first ran for office as a Member of Parliament of Eldoret North in the 1997 general election and surprised many by beating incumbent Reuben Chesire.
Chesire was former President Daniel Moi's preferred candidate and the Uasin Gishu KANU branch chairman and assistant minister.
Being beaten by a young inexperienced politician who had never run for office was highly unexpected.
Ruto also made history in 1998 by becoming the only assistant minister to seat in Cabinet meetings.
Most recently, he mounted a spirited opposition against attempts to amend the Constitution using the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) which was eventually thrown out by the courts, terming the initiative null and void.
