In a notable achievement, Kenya has outshone heavyweight contenders such as Morocco, Egypt, and Nigeria in providing an elevated quality of life for its residents, according to Numbeo, a leading global aggregator.

Nairobi, the nation's capital, secured the fifth position in the ranking, trailing behind four South African cities: Cape Town, Pretoria, Durban, and Johannesburg.

This marks a significant improvement from the previous year when Nairobi held the sixth spot, trailing behind Casablanca in Morocco.

In the latest ranking, Casablanca dropped out of the top seven, with Cairo in Egypt and Lagos in Nigeria claiming the sixth and seventh positions, respectively.

Numbeo's assessment of quality of life encompasses various indices, including purchasing power, safety, healthcare, climate, and overall well-being and satisfaction within a community. Additional factors considered are the cost of living, property price-to-income ratio, traffic commute time, and pollution index.

Nairobi particularly excelled in climate, health, and pollution indexes, but fell short in purchasing power and cost of living indices. The city performed moderately in safety and property-to-income ratio.

Despite facing challenges in some categories, Nairobi's regional dominance remains unchallenged, with no other East African city making it to the top ranks.

This latest recognition comes on the heels of another accolade for Nairobi, being declared the best city to visit in the world for 2023 in a survey conducted by the United States-based travel agency Lonely Planet.
