In a Sunday morning post on Truth Social, President Donald Trump said the plans for his proposed triumphal arch have been updated at the "strong request" of the US military and for "national security purposes". He described the revised scheme as a "top grade" military complex integrated with the arch, capable of housing and rapidly deploying large numbers of drones and snipers on both the roof and plaza areas, and of storing substantial quantities of sniper ammunition.
The proposed structure would rise 250 feet (76 metres) from its base to the top of a golden, winged Lady Liberty statue, flanked by two gold eagles. Inscribed on either side would be the phrases "One Nation Under God" and "Liberty and Justice for All". At that height the arch would dwarf the nearby 99‑foot Lincoln Memorial and stand at roughly half the height of the Washington Monument. The site is slated for a location across the Potomac River from Washington DC, just outside Arlington National Cemetery.
Trump did not give details on construction timing or whether further approval is required. When approached for comment, the Department of Defence declined to provide additional information about the proposed military facilities.
The arch is one of several high‑profile construction projects Trump has pursued during his second term, including a gilded makeover of the Oval Office, a White House ballroom projected to cost around $400 million, paving over the Rose Garden and renovating the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
