DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa has presented Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna with a copy of his late brother Michael Wamalwa Kijana’s newly launched memoir, My Country First, in a meeting that also pointed to possible political cooperation ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Wamalwa was accompanied by his niece, Alice Muthoni Wamalwa, the eldest daughter of the late Vice President, when they visited Sifuna at his office on Tuesday to present the book on behalf of the Wamalwa family.

The meeting combined a tribute to Michael Wamalwa’s political legacy with emerging efforts to build broader political alliances ahead of the 2027 polls.

In a message shared after the meeting, Wamalwa said the book presentation was an opportunity to appreciate Sifuna and wish him well as he reads the late vice president’s account of his political journey.

He also used the occasion to point to the possibility of closer cooperation between political formations associated with the two leaders.

Wamalwa said he was looking forward to seeing the DAP-K and the Linda Mwananchi initiative work together once the latter completes the process of securing registration of its political vehicle.

He drew parallels with previous political alliances, including the National Alliance of Kenya (NAK), which brought together Michael Wamalwa, Charity Ngilu and Mwai Kibaki, as well as the 2002 political cooperation involving Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, George Saitoti and Moody Awori under the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).

Wamalwa suggested that the current “WANTAM” arrangement could similarly develop into a broader “WANTEAM”, signalling his openness to a wider coalition ahead of the next election.

Sifuna welcomes Wamalwa family

Sifuna acknowledged the visit in a post on X, thanking the Wamalwa family for the book and recognising Michael Wamalwa’s contribution to Kenya’s political history.

“Ndugu Eugene Wamalwa and his niece Alice dropped by the office today to present me with the Late Michael Kijana Wamalwa’s book ‘My Country First’,” Sifuna said.

The Nairobi senator thanked the family for its contribution to the country and expressed hope that they would continue working together to advance the late vice president’s vision for Kenya.

“I thank the entire Wamalwa family for their contribution to this Nation’s history and hope that we will continue walking together to see the dreams Mike had for the country become reality,” Sifuna said.

My Country First launch

The meeting came shortly after the launch of My Country First, a book documenting Michael Wamalwa Kijana’s life and political journey.

The memoir was launched by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday, August 23, 2026, during a ceremony at Milimani Grounds in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County.

The launch brought renewed attention to the legacy of the late vice president, who served in the government of President Mwai Kibaki and remained an influential figure in Kenya’s opposition politics.

According to Eugene Wamalwa, the book traces his elder brother’s journey from his early life through his rise to national leadership.

The decision to present a copy to Sifuna therefore carries significance beyond the book itself, coming at a time when political leaders are exploring new alliances and realignments ahead of the 2027 election.

While Tuesday’s meeting did not amount to a formal political agreement, Wamalwa’s comments about a possible “WANTEAM” and Sifuna’s reference to continuing to work together offer a glimpse into the conversations taking place among opposition leaders as they seek to shape the political landscape ahead of 2027.
