Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga is set to lead protests against the government on Wednesday, July 12, calling for civil disobedience and urging his supporters to join in.

On Tuesday, July 11, Raila unveiled a digital signature platform aimed at collecting 15 million signatures to challenge President William Ruto's credibility. However, Inspector General Japhet Koome declared the Azimio protest illegal, citing lack of notification from the coalition.

President Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua issued warnings to protect businesses and lives, with their allies demanding the arrest of Raila and opposition leaders. Demonstrators in Kisii and Kisumu expressed their discontent by burning tires on major roads, protesting against the high cost of living. Business activities remained minimal in Kisumu as Maandamano Wednesday approached.

Security was heightened in Nairobi and other areas considered Azimio strongholds in anticipation of potential clashes between the police and coalition supporters advocating for a lower cost of living.
