Roseline ‘Rosie’ Atieno, the Kenyan nanny who gained internet fame with her emotional farewell in Lebanon, has shared the heartfelt story behind her departure from Kenya and the emotional connection she formed with the children she cared for.
In an interview with Pancras Karema, CEO of Expeditions Maasai Safaris, Roseline, a mother of three from Siaya County, revealed that her tearful goodbye was fueled by mixed emotions about reuniting with her own children after two years.
“I cried because I had mixed feelings about meeting my kids after two years and leaving kids I had taken care of for two years who treated me like their parents,” shared Roseline during the interview.
She disclosed that her journey to Lebanon in 2021 was prompted by the end of a troubled marriage and her quest for better opportunities to provide for her children.
“I went in October 2021, and at that time, I was in a marriage that was not working, and I decided to go there and find greener pastures to be able to give my kids a good life,” explained Roseline.
Despite initial apprehensions, Roseline prayed for a supportive family, and her prayers were answered when she met the Lebanese family at the airport. The immediate connection with the children and their mother was heartwarming, describing them as “good people” who are renowned content creators in Lebanon.
Recalling her time with the children, Roseline expressed deep affection for them, emphasizing how they filled the void left by her own kids. She warmly reminisced about the family and extended an invitation for them to visit Kenya and meet her children.
While in Lebanon, Roseline felt a sense of home, despite the difference being that she was being paid for her services. She emphasized the children's appreciation for her genuine self, stating, “The kids appreciate me for who I am.”
Although she plans to return to Lebanon, Roseline has not set a date, intending to continue working with the family until the children are a bit older.
In recognition of her exceptional commitment, Expeditions Maasai Safaris has expressed appreciation by booking her family for an unforgettable experience in the majestic Masai Mara.
“We believe in celebrating individuals like Rozah, whose devotion and kindness inspire us. This journey to Masai Mara is a small gesture to honor her incredible spirit and the profound impact she makes every day,” said Pancras Karema.
