Revealed: Ruto’s mission to Uganda was to get Museveni help to reconcile with Uhuru

A highly placed source of Deputy President William Ruto has revealed intricate details regarding his visit to meet Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.

The DP had flown out on Tuesday, July 6 in order to meet the Ugandan leader whereby he was the chief guest for the official laying of the foundation stone for a vaccine manufacturing facility.

The DP and Museveni also held extensive meetings in the subsequent days. The source, who sought anonymity, intimated that Ruto sought intervention from Museveni in order to patch his rocky relationship with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The source’s statement was also echoed by Meru Senator Mithika Linturi who affirmed that the window to mend the bridges is not yet closed.

“There is nothing impossible in politics. It is about interests. The President has been so rough on us but our saving grace has been the fact that we have the people.

We have no problem if he wants to reconcile with us,” Linturi stated.

Reports also indicated that among other reasons for the visit was to seek Museveni’s support for his Presidential bid in the 2022 General elections.

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) chairman Johnstone Muthama added that Ruto’s visit was a bid to enhance the friendship between the two countries.

“We are neighbours with Uganda. Their problems are our problems. This is the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, the leadership of this country has invited Museveni for national events,” he stated.

Further, he sought to look after his businesses in the neighbouring country.

The DP is stated to have vast business interests in Uganda – among them agricultural investments such as avocado and rice farming and a chain of petrol stations.

As the 2022 General elections edge closer, the bid to succeed Uhuru seems to intensify with Presidential aspirants going all out in a bid to secure their chances.

This has seen political leaders extend their relationship beyond the Kenyan borders in order to solidify their relationships with neighbouring countries.
