A police officer based at Naroosura Police Station in Narok County is under investigation following claims that he assaulted a woman in public after she visited the station to report a domestic dispute involving her husband.
The woman, who sustained soft tissue injuries and "grievous harm," says she was attacked with blunt objects by the officer, including blows to her lower body, leaving her physically and emotionally traumatised.
Alleged Collusion and Assault at Police Station
According to an occurrence book entry (OB 7/19/4/2025) and a medical report, the woman had gone to the station seeking assistance over a jointly-owned motorcycle. She claimed her husband had diverted its proceeds to support a new relationship after engaging in an affair.
What began as a routine request for intervention allegedly turned violent when the officer — believed to be colluding with her husband and his new partner — reportedly turned against her and assaulted her in front of witnesses.
Her children and neighbours rushed her to Naroosura Health Centre, where she was treated and discharged on Monday.
Claims of Cover-Up and Intimidation
After recovering, the woman returned to the police station to file a report, but she claims the case was initially dismissed without explanation. It was only through pressure from senior administrative officials that she was eventually allowed to record the OB entry.
Fearing intimidation and lack of justice, she now accuses local police leadership of shielding the accused officer, raising concerns about internal accountability.
Rising Gender-Based Violence Cases
The case has been escalated to senior police oversight bodies and gender-based violence (GBV) activists, amid a national outcry over rising incidents of GBV and police misconduct.
Between September 2023 and December 2024, Kenya recorded over 7,100 GBV cases, including more than 100 women killed since August 2024.
In response, the Kenyan government has classified GBV as a national security threat and recently launched a specialised police unit to tackle these alarming cases.
