KNEC Directives to Teachers Ahead of KCPE & KCSE Exams

Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) issued ground rules to guide teachers and candidates ahead of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, and the inaugural Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA).

KNEC instructed teachers to warn candidates not to fall prey to fraudsters who circulate fake examination materials.

The teachers were also tasked with developing strategies that would curb exam malpractice.

"None of those images being circulated are genuine examination papers. I challenge anyone to present an examination paper before the exam date,” KNEC stated.

One supervisor will be responsible for at least 200 candidates. The invigilators who will be brought on board will be tasked with managing 20 candidates.

Whereas supervisors and invigilators will come from other schools, headteachers will function as centre managers.

To help KNEC effectively execute its mandate, Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is set to deploy over 250,000 teachers. TSC chief executive officer, Nancy Macharia, instructed sub-county executive directors to vet teachers who will oversee the exercise.

"You are required to identify, nominate and vet centre managers, supervisors and invigilators," Macharia stated.

Both KCPE and KPSEA exams will compromise multiple-choice questions. The examination papers will also have special features and will only be opened once the exercise commences.

Grade 6 learners will sit the unauguralKenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) which will run concurrently with Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations for candidates in Standard 8.

KCPE and KPSEA candidates will undertake their rehearsal on Friday, November 25 and the assessment from Monday, November 28 to Wednesday, November 30.

The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations will then commence a month later, from Friday, December 2 to December 23.

This will be the first national examinations to be administered under President William Ruto's regime with the new Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu in charge.

Already, Ruto formed a team to review the Competency-Based Curriculum, with the head of state keen on lowering costs incurred by parents and the government.
