Kenyans were left disgusted after a viral video surfaced showing 'kahawa' hawkers in Nairobi using highly unhygienic methods to prepare their merchandise, sparking widespread concern.

In the video, which circulated online without a specified date, three unidentified men were captured in what appeared to be a makeshift setting, seemingly preparing coffee. Shockingly, they were observed using their bare hands to mix the dark beverage.

While one man, dressed in a red t-shirt and dark pants, smoked what appeared to be a joint, two others crouched over a cooking pot, alternately pouring coffee and stirring it with their unwashed hands. The unsanitary practice drew gasps from onlookers and viewers alike.

As the video progressed, the man initially seen smoking joined in, pouring more beverage from a brown thermos into the pot, adding to the disbelief of those witnessing the spectacle. A total of five thermos flasks lay scattered around the scene.

The disturbing footage left many questioning the quality and safety of coffee sold by street vendors across Nairobi. "Anaosha nayo uso?" (Is he washing his face with it?) one incredulous voice could be heard commenting.

The video sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with thousands expressing shock and vowing to avoid purchasing coffee from street hawkers. Concerns over public health and the welfare of consumers were at the forefront of discussions.

"While poverty can be understood, knowingly endangering the health and well-being of fellow countrymen for profit is unacceptable," remarked one user.

Another expressed reluctance to consume street food, citing similar concerns about hygiene among vendors. However, humor amidst the seriousness surfaced as one user jokingly speculated, "Why does the coffee splash like that? Perhaps those are secret ingredients!"

While it's widely acknowledged that many street vendors, including 'kahawa' sellers, hail from neighboring countries, the nationalities of the individuals in the video remain unconfirmed. Nevertheless, the incident underscores the urgent need for stricter regulations and enforcement to ensure food safety standards in public spaces.
