In the recently released Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) Examination results for 2023, Private Schools have secured the leading positions, according to Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu.
Topping the charts is Riara Springs Academy in Nairobi, producing the highest-scoring student nationally, Michael Warutere, who achieved an impressive 428 marks.
Following closely is Gilgil Hills Academy, a mixed Primary School in Nairobi, which produced the second-best candidate, Emmaculate Wacheke, scoring 427 marks. This tied with St Anne's Girls Primary, a public Primary School in Kakamega County, where student Jacinta Bethany Khasungu also achieved 427 marks.
Felix Omondi from Rae Kanyika Primary School in Kisumu County secured 426 marks, sharing the position with Khadija Hamid from Light Academy in Nairobi.
Debra Aluel from Ndima Kanini Academy attained 425 marks, and Muchoki Rosemary Ndula from Pen-Elite Primary scored 424 marks, tying with Rotich Jeremy Kipng'eno from Moi Educational Centre.
George Kipkoech Mutai from St Bakhita School Sabaki achieved 423 marks, along with seven other candidates from schools such as Imperial Primary School, St Andrew Kaggwa Boys, St Anselm Mururi Boarding School, and Gilgil Hills Academy.
CS Machogu officially released the 2023 KCPE results on Thursday, marking the conclusion of the final KCPE examinations under the 8-4-4 system. With over 1.4 million students participating, 8,523 students managed to secure over 400 marks.
Assuring parents, the CS affirmed the government's commitment to implementing the 100 percent transition policy, including the introduction of special examinations in January 2024 for candidates who were unable to sit their exams in the current year.
