In a significant legal development, the High Court has delivered a verdict of guilt against the controversial pastor, Paul Mackenzie. The charges brought against him pertained to the possession and distribution of films without the necessary licensing.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) issued a statement on a Friday, disclosing that the court had determined the evidence presented by the prosecution to be substantial, ultimately resulting in Mackenzie's conviction.
A sentencing date will be scheduled following the submission of a pre-sentence report to the Court.
The statement released by the ODPP explained, "Paul Mckenzie has been found guilty of possessing and distributing films that lacked proper classification, and also of operating a film studio without a valid filming license. The prosecution, led by Joseph Mwangi, successfully presented their case."
The Court further directed the Probation and Aftercare Services to compile a pre-sentence report to capture the sentiments of the complainant, which in this instance, was the Prosecution.
The case is set to be mentioned on December 1, 2023.
The charges against Mackenzie originated from an incident that led to his appearance before the Malindi Law Courts on June 30. It was alleged that the films in question had been used to incite students to leave school in 2019, marking a contentious and complex legal battle for the embattled pastor.
