- Parents will be able to view their child’s admission letter on the Ministry’s website, by visiting www.education.go.ke
- An alternative way to check the selection results is by sending an SMS with the student’s Index Number to 22263 from any mobile network. This attracts some charges.
- To access the admission letter online, parents need to visit the Ministry’s website, select the county and sub-county where the student sat for KCPE, enter the index number, and submit.
- Once the letter is displayed, parents can download it for their records..
The Form One placement criteria have not changed. This selection still lays emphasis on merit, equity, and choice of the learner.
Usually, there are concerns that the selection based on these parameters will favor public schools as a way of moderating to compensate for the performance difference. As such, there have been calls for transparency and accountability in the selection process. Additionally, some call for children to be given the opportunity to attend the school of their choice and for parents of children in private schools to be treated equitably.
The Education sector is seeing a lot of changes and confusion especially surrounding the implementation of the Competency-based Curriculum (CBC). Here’s to hoping that the teething issues get addressed quickly so learners can focus on the most important tasks.
