Deputy President William Ruto on Wednesday, July 13, lost his temper while addressing a disorderly Kenya Kwanza rally in Vihiga County, that was marred by sibling rivalry.
Ruto’s speech was interrupted on a number of occasions by rival groups allied to ANC Vihiga gubernatorial candidate Alfred Agoi and UDA Sabatia parliamentary Clement Sloya.
After pleading with them on multiple occasions, a visibly angered DP took on one youthful supporter and warned him to either keep quiet or exit the meeting. ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi was not present at the rally held in his backyard.
“Tuwe na heshima. Kama kuna mtu ametumwa hapa kuja kuharibu mkutano museme sahii hivi mapema ama muondoke kwa hii mkutano. Mnataka Sloya aondoke? Basi nyamazeni atapata nafasi aongee. Wewe kijana wacha kunijibu, unanijibu kama nani? Kama umeleta kisirani kwa hii mkutano utoke. Huwezi kuja hapa kuharibu mkutano.(Let us have respect. If anyone has been sent here to cause chaos at our meeting, reveal yourself early or just leave. Sloya will not leave but will address the meeting later. Young man, do not answer me. On what basis would you answer me? Do not bring trouble here and if you want, then leave but respect our gathering),” Ruto furiously stated.
Initially, Ruto had warned a section of the rowdy crowd to maintain order and show respect to the politicians who had graced the event. The DP noted that he would not allow the crowd to disrupt the gathering, but instead opt for a more affirmative approach to deal with the rowdy supporters.
“Let us have respect, as the Kenya Kwanza coalition we are people of order and of respect. Let us not turn this into chaos. When I stand here as the coalition’s leader, know that it’s a combination of UDA, ANC, FORD-Kenya, and other parties, so let us have some decorum,” he added.
The DP pointed out that the hostile crowd did not represent the policies embodied within the Kenya Kwanza coalition.
“The next government will not be built based on chaos. Leadership will not be founded on conflict so I urge all of you to be patient and all the politicians will be given a chance to address you,” he noted.
