The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has postponed all scheduled promotion interviews for teachers across the country following the declaration of a public holiday in honour of the late former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga.
In a statement released on Thursday, October 17, the Commission confirmed that the interviews—originally slated for Friday, October 18—will now take place between Tuesday, October 21, and Thursday, October 23, 2025.
“Following the government’s declaration of Friday, October 17, 2025, as a public holiday in honour of the late Raila Odinga, the Teachers Service Commission has suspended all promotional interviews previously scheduled for that date,” the statement read in part.
TSC added that regional directors would provide fresh schedules and logistical details to the affected teachers.
The interviews, part of the Commission’s regular promotion exercise, are meant to assess teachers for advancement in their respective job groups. They follow an earlier recruitment drive that saw over 21,000 promotional positions advertised in August.
More than 47,000 primary school teachers had already been shortlisted, with interviews beginning on October 6 at the sub-county level. Interviews for post-primary teachers, senior principals, and curriculum support officers had been ongoing this week at county and regional levels.
The postponement follows the government’s declaration of Friday as a national day of mourning for Odinga, who passed away on Wednesday, October 15, in India at the age of 80. The State Funeral is set for Friday, October 17, at Nyayo National Stadium.
Raila’s death has prompted an outpouring of grief across the country, with public institutions adjusting schedules in respect of the fallen leader.
