Parliament has unveiled a list of 60 nominees set to receive national honours during this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kitui County, with prominent lawmakers among those recognised for their service.
The list, dominated by elected leaders, features 11 senators, 35 Members of the National Assembly, and 14 senior government officials drawn from various departments.
Among the most notable names is Narok Senator Ledama Olekina, the Senate Minority Whip, nominated for the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS)—one of Kenya’s highest civilian distinctions.
Other senators proposed for the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) include Nyeri’s Wahome Wamating’a, Marsabit’s Mohammed Said Chute, and Bungoma’s David Wafula Wakoli. Also on the list are Johnes Mwashusha (Taita Taveta), Issa Juma (Kwale), William Kipkemoi (Elgeyo Marakwet), James Ekomwa (Turkana), and nominated senators Veronica Miana, Hamida Kibwana, and Beth Kalunda.
In the National Assembly, Minority Whip Junet Mohamed, Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss, and Silvanus Osoro are among those nominated for recognition under the CBS category. Several parliamentary committee chairs and vice-chairs are also included.
Other notable MPs nominated include Naisula Lesuuda (Samburu West), Otiende Amollo (Rarieda), Dido Raso (Saku), William Kamket (Tiaty), Didmus Barasa (Kimilili), Eve Obara (Kabondo Kasipul), and Mark Mwenje (Embakasi West).
Outside Parliament, the list also recognises key Parliamentary Service staff, including CPA Jeremiah Nyegenye, the Clerk of the Senate and Secretary of the Parliamentary Service Commission, who has been proposed for the CBS honour.
In a notable inclusion, Mary Wanyonyi Chebukati, widow of the late former IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati and current Chair of the Commission on Revenue Allocation, has been nominated for the Moran of the Order of the Golden Heart (MGH).
Parliament announced that the public is invited to submit any objections or representations regarding the nominees to the Parliamentary Honours Advisory Committee.
“Submissions must be made through honours@parliament.go.ke and received on or before Monday, 13th October 2025, at 5 p.m.,” the statement read. “Presidential awards are granted under the authority of the National Honours Act of 2013.”
The honours will be conferred during the Mashujaa Day national celebrations, a day dedicated to recognising Kenyans who have made significant contributions to the nation’s development, service, and leadership.
