Nairobi, Kenya — The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced that it will resume Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) from Monday, 29 September, opening another opportunity for Kenyans to register or update their details ahead of the 2027 general election.

The commission confirmed the exercise will take place in all constituency offices across the country, except in areas where by-elections are ongoing.

“This exercise is part of our constitutional duty to ensure that Kenya has an updated and credible voter register. A free and fair election begins with accurate records,” IEBC chairperson Erastus Ethekon said during a recent address.

The CVR services include first-time voter registration, correction of details, transfer to a different polling station, and verification of existing information. Citizens can also check their details online via the IEBC portal at verify.iebc.or.ke.

To qualify, one must be a Kenyan citizen aged 18 or above, holding a valid ID card or passport, and not previously registered as a voter. Those convicted of election offences in the past five years or declared of unsound mind are not eligible.

IEBC urged young people who have just reached voting age to take part in the exercise. “Your participation in democracy starts with registration,” the commission noted in a statement.

The registration will run on weekdays, from 8am to 5pm. Kenyans who have moved residence or wish to change polling stations have also been encouraged to make the transfer early, before the usual last-minute rush that often marks major voter listing drives.

The resumption comes at a time when the commission faces scrutiny over electoral preparedness. Civic groups and political leaders have repeatedly stressed the importance of a transparent and inclusive voter register in ensuring credible elections in 2027.
