Kenyan content creator Murugi Munyi has unveiled the most daring fashion statement she ever incorporated into her motherhood journey – a boudoir photoshoot. In an interview with Nairobi News, Munyi disclosed her experience with boudoir photography, a genre that encapsulates intimacy, vulnerability, and sensuality.

Back in 2018, Munyi embarked on a journey that challenged societal norms and perceptions of beauty, both her own and those of countless others. Boudoir photography centers around celebrating a woman's body in its purest form, often featuring lingerie or tasteful nudity. The term "boudoir" derives from French, signifying a woman's private dressing room, embodying the genre's intimate nature.

“A boudoir shoot. I can’t remember what year it was, maybe 2018, but that was pretty daring. I think I just woke up one day and I was like you know what I want pictures which look like this. And that time I didn’t think I was going to post them but then again I did,” Murugi shared.

This revelation highlights her spontaneous yet profound decision to defy convention and capture herself authentically.

In a world where motherhood is sometimes seen as a counterpoint to sensuality, Murugi encountered her own set of challenges. "Apparently mums don’t have bodies. Apparently, moms are not sexy. So I didn’t take to heart what others said about it and just went for it," she asserted.

Her sentiments dismantle a pervasive societal misconception – that a woman's identity as a mother overshadows her identity as an individual and a sensual being.

Murugi's daring step resonated beyond her personal journey. “I really enjoyed doing it, and I really enjoyed celebrating myself, and even though the outcome of that is not exactly what I wanted, a lot of plus-size mums were saying they were waiting to lose weight so that they can do it. You could wait to lose weight for 10 years and still be fat, just do it,” she emphasized.

Her words echo a call for women of all body types to unconditionally embrace themselves. Self-love doesn't depend on unrealistic standards or societal validation; it's a path of self-discovery and acceptance.

A boudoir photoshoot captures the unfiltered authenticity of a woman's body, honoring imperfections and embracing scars, both physical and emotional.

Through her audacious journey, Murugi Munyi has initiated a dialogue challenging norms and empowering women to reclaim their narratives. A boudoir photoshoot isn't just about capturing an image; it's about seizing moments of self-celebration, self-acceptance, and empowerment.
