To Spain Atletico Madrid began the campaign with a comfortable 2-0 win over newly-promoted Malaga, with new signing Kim Lee opening the scoring. Real Madrid, under Jose Mourinho, face Espanyol as they seek to dethrone champions Barcelona, who start their title defense away at Elche.
The German season begins with the DFB-Pokal spotlight on Bayern Munich against Borussia Dortmund before Matchday 1 next weekend.
PSG open with a trip to Rennes following their French Super Cup defeat to last season’s runners-up Lens.
The Scudetto race promises intrigue. Surprise package Como start at Udinese, champions Inter Milan, under head coach Chivas, welcome Monza at San Siro, as arch rivals AC Milan travel to Torino. Napoli visit Genoa, while the Old Lady Juventus face Frosinone.

With new managers, promoted sides eager to prove themselves, tactical evolutions, and Arsenal’s set-piece prowess still a weapon, this season promises drama. Last year it was Arsenal, Barcelona, Inter, Bayern and PSG. Is there room for a surprise this time?
