Former Mombasa Senator, Hassan Omar now claims that President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is serving his second and final term is surrounded by non-thinkers.
In a radio interview on Wednesday, January 26, the outspoken politician allied to Deputy President, William Ruto, stated that Kenyatta is not entirely to be blamed for the current economic crisis.
Hassan claimed that the members of the Head of State’s inner circle, including former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich, was at fault for denting Kenyatta’s legacy.
While referring to a claim by former Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, he claimed that the President and his close friends made decisions without sobriety.
“Uhuru’s (inner circle), there are no thinkers. It appears it was him and Rotich and Big Ted, who were making all these decisions,” Hassan remarked.
The Mombasa County gubernatorial aspirant contrasted Uhuru’s close allies with those of former President, Mwai Kibaki.
He noted that although he was a fierce critic of the former President’s preference to appoint members from his community to plum positions, the individuals he chose were worth their salt.
“Kibaki’s government, I remember, I was very critical of it based on the disproportionate population of what I thought was Kibaki’s Kikuyu community.
“But every time you sat with Kibaki’s economist, you were left inspired by him. He was all that he is even in terms of economy,” Hassan remarked.
Omar cunningly left out DP Ruto, despite the former being Kenyatta’s deputy since taking over the reins of power.
“We have interrogated him on that matter. I remember the last time we told him in Mombasa we told him that there is no way he can not continue talking about the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) because it was a legacy under his administration,” he remarked.
