Shollei Accuses Gachagua of Treason Amid Impeachment Debate

08, Oct 2024 / 1 min read / By Livenow Africa

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss Shollei has intensified the impeachment debate against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of treason. Shollei made the accusations during the National Assembly’s ongoing discussions on Gachagua’s impeachment, citing his public remarks and actions as grounds for gross misconduct.

Shollei pointed to a rally in Githurai where Gachagua allegedly led chants calling for President William Ruto's removal, labeling the president as a "one-term president." She argued that Gachagua's failure to denounce the chants implicates him in treasonous activities.

“By participating in such chants and not disowning them, he is guilty of treason and other serious offenses,” Shollei declared.

Additionally, Shollei referenced remarks Gachagua made during a church service in Meru, suggesting that his removal could incite violence within the Mt. Kenya community. She also criticized his disclosure of Kenya Kwanza’s pre-election pact, accusing him of violating a Non-Disclosure Agreement.
