Azimio leader Raila Odinga, on Monday, January 22, strongly refuted claims circulating in local dailies that the coalition is on the brink of collapse. Addressing the issue in Lamu County, the former Prime Minister dismissed the reports as both false and unfortunate.
Contrary to media speculation about internal strife within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Raila assured the public that there is no imminent danger of Azimio collapsing. He particularly emphasized that the coalition has remained intact since the 2022 general election, except for a few Members of Parliament who chose to collaborate with President William Ruto.
Expressing surprise at the newspaper headlines, Raila stated, "I want to dispel any rumour being spread by irresponsible media. There is no danger of Azimio collapsing any time soon." He urged the Kenyan media to refrain from spreading unfounded rumors and highlighted that occasional disagreements on specific issues do not signify disintegration.
Raila reassured his supporters that despite differing opinions, the coalition stands firm and is focused on liberating the country. He emphasized that Azimio's vision is to free the nation from what he termed as tyranny and irresponsibility.
Earlier, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad assured Lamu residents that both Azimio and ODM remain intact. On Sunday, leaders from ODM, led by former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina, strongly criticized reports suggesting disciplinary action against Suna East MP Junet Mohammed for missing key meetings. They emphasized Junet's significant contributions to ODM and Azimio, asserting that he deserves respect from the party.
