Following the submission of the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms' report to President William Ruto at the State House on Tuesday, the President has issued a directive to the Ministry of Education to implement the proposed education reforms within the stipulated timeframe.
The taskforce has put forth significant recommendations aimed at improving the education system in the country. One of the primary proposals is to adopt a Comprehensive School system, covering grades from Pre-Primary (PP1) to Grade 9, which will encompass Pre-Primary, Primary school, and Junior School, all managed as one institution.
In addition, the committee has suggested dropping the term "Secondary" from Junior Secondary and Senior Secondary Schools, making them simply Junior Schools and Senior Schools, respectively.
The comprehensive school system aims to provide a seamless educational journey for students from early childhood to adolescence, eliminating the perceived gaps and ensuring a more integrated and cohesive learning experience. By managing Pre-Primary, Primary, and Junior School as one entity, the reforms intend to streamline curriculum delivery, teacher training, and resource allocation for enhanced educational outcomes.
Moreover, removing the "Secondary" label from Junior and Senior Secondary Schools is expected to signify a paradigm shift in the way students and educators view the different stages of their educational journey. This change aims to foster a sense of continuity and progression, encouraging students to view the transition from one level to another as a natural and continuous process.
The Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms has emphasized the urgency of implementing these proposals to elevate the quality and efficiency of the education system in the country. President Ruto's directive to the Ministry of Education reflects the government's commitment to transforming the education landscape and ensuring a more holistic and student-centered approach to learning and development.
