Gachagua Hospitalized with Chest Pains, Lawyer Paul Muite Informs Senate

17, Oct 2024 / 1 min read / By Livenow Africa

Lawyer Paul Muite has disclosed that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is experiencing chest pains and has been admitted to Karen Hospital in Nairobi. The revelation came during the Senate plenary session on Thursday, where Muite explained that Gachagua has been prescribed bed rest by his doctor and is currently unable to attend the impeachment trial.

Muite clarified that he had not spoken directly to the Deputy President but had received updates from Gachagua’s doctor regarding his condition. He emphasized that Gachagua's absence from the Senate was due to his medical condition, not a personal choice to avoid the trial.

At around 3 pm, it was revealed that Gachagua had fallen ill shortly after a lunch break, just minutes before he was set to take the stand during the Senate impeachment hearing. Senators were scheduled to vote on the 11 charges against him later in the day.

Addressing the Senate, Muite said, "The sad reality is that the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya has been taken very sick, and as I speak to Mr. Speaker and this House, he is in the hospital."
