The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has released an elaborate account suggesting that Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi staged his own kidnapping, a revelation that has stunned many and sparked national debate.

During a media briefing on Wednesday, May 28, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, alongside DCI Director Amin Mohamed, revealed that three suspects, including the Juja Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Chairperson, have been arrested in connection with what they described as a meticulously planned hoax.

“It’s inconceivable for a sitting Member of Parliament to stage-manage his own abduction, causing unnecessary panic and fear in the country,” Amin said.

Timeline of the Alleged Hoax

Police say they tracked Koimburi’s movements on the day of the alleged abduction—Sunday, May 25—starting from a church service he attended, all the way to a hotel where he reportedly spent the night. Authorities have even identified the exact hotel room.

According to statements recorded by the suspects, the plot began when Koimburi and the Juja CDF Chair attended a church service together. Shortly after, two men in a silver Subaru Forester allegedly staged the MP’s abduction.

However, investigations revealed that the Subaru Forester was borrowed by the CDF chair from a friend under the pretense that it would transport additional security for the MP. That friend later admitted that he unknowingly helped carry out the abduction.

The third suspect confessed to driving the MP and the supposed abductors to a hotel where they stayed overnight, even sharing refreshments. On Monday, May 26, the MP was picked up from the hotel in a Honda CR-V, also linked to the CDF chair, and driven to a coffee farm where he staged his "rescue."

Faking Evidence of Torture

Before Koimburi exited the car to simulate being dumped by his captors, the suspect assisting him reportedly tore his clothes to create the appearance of a violent ordeal.

“We’ve seized both the Subaru Forester and the Honda CR-V used in the operation. The evidence so far strongly suggests this was a staged event,” said Kanja.

Public Reaction and Political Fallout

The MP was taken to a hospital in Ruiru, then transferred to Karen Hospital, where he received visits, including from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who claimed the MP had suffered soft tissue injuries and damage to his vocal cords.

At the time, Gachagua condemned the incident as politically motivated violence. However, the new revelations have cast serious doubt on that narrative.

The police are now seeking public assistance to piece together remaining parts of the puzzle and determine whether more individuals were involved.

As the case unfolds, questions about motive, potential political gain, and the implications for public trust continue to swirl around the shocking turn of events.
