Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi was found unconscious and injured Monday morning, lying in a coffee farm in the Kibichoi area of Kiambu County, hours after he was reported missing.

Koimburi had reportedly been abducted outside a church in Kiambu on Sunday afternoon by unknown assailants. His wife, Ann Koimburi, said two men disguised as worshippers accosted him, forced him into a Subaru Forester with altered number plates, and sped off. The abductors were dressed in plain clothes and did not identify themselves during the incident.

The MP was later found wearing the same navy blue suit from the previous day, unconscious and with visible signs of having been beaten. Witnesses said he was rushed to Karen Hospital by ambulance for urgent medical attention.

While the motive behind the abduction remains unclear, police have denied involvement in the incident and confirmed that an investigation is underway. Authorities say they intend to speak to the MP as part of the ongoing probe.

The dramatic ordeal has sparked outrage among opposition leaders. Former Deputy President and Democratic Change Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua condemned the incident, terming it political persecution aimed at silencing critics of the government.

“This is a clear attempt to intimidate and sabotage the opposition’s campaign against the government,” Gachagua said, referencing similar unrest in Kakamega over the weekend, where DCP rallies were disrupted and vehicles impounded.

Koimburi is known to be a close ally of Gachagua, further fueling speculation that his abduction may have political undertones. As of now, the government has not released any official statement on the matter.
